Here are a few catchall items that I think can be helpful. I always assume that everyone knows these thing and it is a bad to make assumptions, so here goes:
This is not complete but it will cover 90% of the situations:
Hermle:
- Side hammer units such as 351-030 have hammers starting at the bottom of the movement. The new version is marked 351-030A. In this version the chime block must be raised one inch.
- Chain driven movements such as the 451-050 series were made with the suspension post at the same level as the plate. The default for the new one is the high post. You need to either order the one with the low post, which is the DBL model on our list, order a modified leader, or cut the pendulum one inch if you have the older model.
- Different suspension post lengths were used over the years on the grandfather units. The length is measured in mm from the rear plate to the suspension screw. We try to match it if you give us the measurement in ordering. If it is not the stock length, there is a surcharge. You can usually transfer the post and verge as well.
- Some of the older Seth Thomas models of the 350-020 and 150-010 had hammers outside the movement. The block needs to be reversed and the order of the rods reversed as well.
- The older 141-020/21 unit came with both a front and rear pendulum. You need to specify. These are listed out in our Seth Thomas conversions on our website.
- Weight specs are also listed on our site, but if you are making a conversion and order the complete kit, if the original weight specs were different, then the filler is included in the price. That is also on our price list.
- The 1161-853HS unit was made between 1980-83 and has an offset time winding arbor. That is obsolete and a new time winding hole must be made in the dial.
MISC: - Hands – a new Urgos has the same hand shaft size as the Hermle. As a result they come with new hands. The UW66 and the UW03 series always have the longer hands included. The UW32 series has the shorter hands for most of the movements except the cable wound and the 116cm which have the longer hands. If you want something different you need to specify and they are $6 per set. Sometimes the seconds hand does not fit without altering, but Hermle does not have any others at this point.
- Pulleys – the new movements come with the Hermle-style pulley that has a strap, not a hook. That may require either using the old pulleys, adding a S hook, or replacing the weight top if the weight has a closed hook.
- Moon gears – your moon gear will need to be broached slightly to fit the Hermle sized hour tube
- UW7 series – the Hermle conversions require raising the dial about an 1/8″
- Kieninger made before 1980 had a different style leader and pendulum top. Those require ordering a new top. We have them.
- Some Sligh clocks had the selectors in the upper corners of the dial. Those are not easy to retrofit. Most folks leave the upper dials as dummies and drop brass rods behind the dial. We have those as well. Also, we have some new old stock of the old original movements.
- Many KSU models marked 78 and 79 were 14 days movements and the weight need to be reduced to change them out.
- Older KSU models were made for both brass plates and built in hangers. Our models come with the hangers as well also supply OEM customers. The hangers are easily removed if one splits the plate a bit at the bottom or we will remove them for you no charge.
- Some older H series triple chime had the chime rods reversed from the new
