Founded by Mark Butterworth, a retired physics instructor and long-time repair benchman, Butterworth Clocks is one of the largest and most reputable horological suppliers in the world. Mark’s experience of spending tireless hours tackling complex repairs on irreparable movements led him to the philosophy of replacing individual mechanisms versus throwing additional precious time (and money) down the drain. Thus, Butterworth Clocks, Inc. and a new era of clock repair was born! After rapid success as importers and distributors of German clock movements and parts, Butterworth Clocks expanded their catalog to include Quartz movements, clock components, tools, cleaning solutions, accessories and more.

President/Owner, Mark Butterworth, is nationally renowned for his expertise on the anatomy and repair of modern German clock mechanisms. Having a mind for innovation and advancement, he invented the patented ButterBearing®, ButterBushing®, and TrueSound™ chiming quartz. Mark is a past president of the American Watch and Clockmakers’ Institute (AWCI), a former Director of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors (NAWCC), and a life member of both organizations. In his down time, he authored a recurrent column for the AWCI newsletter that culminated in the book The Modern German Clock Movement.

Manager Andy Trosen joined Butterworth Clocks in 1997 and has since time become a facile craftsman and scholar of the trade. His experience within the company has made him an active benchman in his own right with excellent fabricating and machining skills on the lathe. His versatility in the shop, warehouse, and office has made him an indispensable member of the corporation. Andy has revitalized the local trade by servicing and making house calls in Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois. His knowledge and skill set is not only an incredible attribute to BCI, but is a deep and lasting repository of knowledge to the clock community as whole.
